Arlington SX III: ‘Starting on the right rut is important’ – Roczen
Round twelve of the Monster Energy AMA Supercross championship brought the rivalry between Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb and HRC Ken Roczen to the focus of all three Arlington supercross rounds.
Over the last few rounds of the championship, we’ve noticed that Ken and Cooper have ended up next to each other on the gate, is just a coincidence or are mind games being played? Ken discusses the tactics in the Arlington three post race press conference.
“I think the angle and the ruts is what I look at and I’d say what we all kind of look at. So when or you say he wins the heat and I win a heat and we’re one and two, then usually we’re around each other just because those are the preferred lines.”
“This weekend I was tenth gate pick, so there wasn’t many options. And I just kinda went for what I thought was the best route at available gates left. But I think the biggest thing is getting a clean gate when you can, meaning coming out of the start with the rut is important. And a lot of the times we all kind of know where the start’s are genuinely coming from, As I think we all kind of gravitate to those areas on the start.”
