MXGP Britain: ‘I just don’t have the speed yet’ – Herlings

Red Bull KTM rider Jeffrey Herlings rode a solid performance today in Winchester, grabbing a third overall in the MXGP class for round two of the Championship.

“I seem to edge closer and closer to the championship every weekend,’ said Herlings.

“It’s been proven in the past that if you are consistent and are on the podium every weekend, you can edge closer and closer to the championship lead. First moto I rode alright, second moto same thing not anything too impressive. I just don’t have the speed yet, I can do it in one fast lap in the morning, but when it comes to race pace im still struggling a bit.”

“I know that I’m not far off, in both moto’s I think I’m a few seconds so in a full 35 minute moto I know that i’m not too far off, so I don’t want to throw it away I know we can get better. We just want to just keep racing, and get better.”

“Hopefully over the next few weeks I will have the boys on the right side of me, for now I feel good but for now we can improve week by week, I wish I could tell you when I will be back up to speed. In the second moto it started raining and the pace was fast, I saw some guys infront of me doing to dodgy moves I was like ‘Woah’ that was pretty scary so I thought I don’t want to go down here.

“I’m satisfied with my position and I think this championship is short but very long, coming into June and in four months we will have had eighteen rounds complete. You can’t really have an Injury what so ever so you have to be the same every weekend.”
