MXGP Turkey: Herlings claims overall win
Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings returned to overall victory at the eighth round of the FIM World MXGP Championship in Turkey.
Red Bull KTM’s Prado holeshots the second MXGP moto of the day and took an early lead, as Monster Energy Kawasaki Romain Febvre had another great start and sat in third for the majority of the race.
Race one winner Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings chased down the Monster Energy Factory Yamaha rider and made the pass to move up into fifth position early on in the second moto.
HRC Honda’s Tim Gajser made a huge pass to get around Febvre, and charged through to try and close the gap on race leader Prado. Meanwhile a huge huge crash for Standing Construct GasGas rider Pauls Jonass at the end of the straight firing him through the branding boards and over the top of the berm, luckily he was unhurt but retired from the race.
With Herlings on the charge chasing down his Red Bull KTM Team mate Antonio Cairoli, the trio of Prado, Cairoli and Herlings all end up together as Caroli clips his team mate Prado and nearly causes him to crash out of the moto. Half a lap later Cairoli clips a bale on the start straight and goes over the bars, rejoining the race to finish in fifth position.
Gajser however checked out from the rest of the pack with a second lead, claiming the race two win in Turkey.
