MXGP Trentino: Duncan secures third World Championship title

Bike IT Kawasaki’s Courtney Duncan claims her third WMX World Championship title, at the sixth round of the series in Trentino, Italy.

Yamaha rider Larissa Papenmeier grabs the Fox Holeshot for the first WMX moto of the day, as Bike IT Kawasaki’s Courtney Duncan doesn’t get a good start and goes through in around tenth place, followed by Fontanesi. Yamaha’s Larissa Papenmeier held first, as Van de Van moves through the pack to follow just behind.

GasGas’s Kiara Fontanesi then completely threw away her championship hopes in lap two, coming together with another rider and rejoining way down the pack, to eventually finish the moto in fifteenth position, being a huge blow for the previous world champion.

Duncan tries to close the gap on Van de Van on the last lap, but Van De Van pushes forward try and make the pass on Papenmeier, ultimately with Larissa grabbing the race win, ahead of Van De Van and Duncan.

However that’s all the Kiwi had to do to secure her third World Championship title in the first moto for the 2021 race season, was finish in third position.
