MXGP Lombardia: Febvre extends championship lead
Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Romain Febvre extended his championship lead for the first moto of the day in Mantova, leading from start to finish.
Red Bull KTM’s Jeffrey Herlings comes together with seewer in the opening laps, with his seat almost being ripped clean off, as Febvre moves up into the race lead.
Making his MXGP Premier class debut, Ruben Fernandez moved up into fourth place, as Jeffrey started charging through the pack as he sat just outside the top ten mid moto, making the pass on Standing Construct Factory GasGas’s Brian Bogers.
HRC Honda’s Tim Gajser then made the pass on Red Bull KTM’s Antonio Cairoli, to move up into second and then started to chase down race leader Romain Febvre.
Gasjer then started to close the gap on Febvre, just as Herlings sets the fastest lap of the moto and made the pass on Ruben Fernandez to move into fourth position. Cairoli then closed the gap on Gajser, as Herlings shot straight past his team mate and then tired to make the pass on Gajser to almost pushed into second place.
Febvre went on to win and extend his championship lead to six points ahead of Herlings, as Gajser was then given a five place penalty which dropped him down to eighth place finish.
