Anaheim SX: Roczen wins 450SX Main event
HRC Honda’s Ken Roczen wins the 450SX main event for the opening Monster Energy AMA Supercross season opener in Anaheim, followed by Red Bull KTM’s Cooper Webb.
With Roczen grabbing the holeshot with His HRC Honda team mate Chase Sexton just behind on the charge, followed by and injured Monster Energy Kawasaki rider Adam Cianciarulo. Rocky Mountain ATV KTM Shane Mcelrath also grabbed a great start ahead of Troy Lee Designs GasGas rider Justin Barcia for the opening few laps.
Sexton then closed the gap on Roczen, whilst trying to make the pass makes a huge mistake hitting the tough blocks, allowing Cianciarulo to go through and make the pass, as Sexton then made another mistake through the whoops going over the bars. Barcia then moves up into second place, with Monster Energy Kawasaki’s Jason Anderson sitting in third.
Red Bull KTM Marvin Musquin and Rockstar Energy Husqvarna’s Malcolm Stewart come together whilst battling further down the field with Musquin cleaning out Stewart taking both of them down, just as Monster Energy Yamaha Dylan Ferrandis made a mistake going down in the whoops and struggled to restart the moto.
Anderson then made the pass on Barcia through the whoops section, just as BamBam is his usual style cleans out Anderson on the next corner, dropping El hombre back to eighth place. With two laps to go sexton works his way back past Musquin, as Ken Roczen goes on to win the opening 450SX moto.
