MX Nationals: Victory for team SJP Moto KTM at Canada Heights
SJP Moto KTM team headed to Canada Heights in Swanley last weekend in Kent, for the third round of the Michelin MX Nationals powered by Milwaukee.
The weekend started with qualifying in the MXY125 class as Charlie Heyman took pole with Jayden Haigh third fastest. In the Big Wheel 85cc class Billy Askew took pole position.
In the first MXY125 moto Heyman took the race win by over thirteen seconds with Haigh taking a third place finish. In the second race on Saturday Heyman took another solid race win with Haigh finishing in third once again but following the race Haigh was issued with a penalty and dropped to eight in results.
In the Big Wheel 85cc class Billy Askew was in fine form on the Saturday and claimed both race wins after being in race long battles for the victory.
Sunday morning saw the riders head back out on track for their final two races of the weekend. In the MXY125 class unfortunately both Charlie and Jayden both suffered a bad opening race with Charlie finishing thirteenth after a stone derailed his chain, while Jayden suffered a heavy crash and finished nineteenth. In the final race Heyman once again took the win and Jayden finished twelveth after struggling following the crash in race three.
Heyman ended the weekend in second overall and leads the Championship by 44 points, while Jayden finished ninth overall and sits third in the Championship.
In the 85cc class Billy started Sunday with another race win and then in the final race, Billy took the early race lead but dropped to third after clipping a piece of track fencing and crashing and finished in third at the flag. After finishing 1,1,1,3 Billy took the Overall win and leads the Championship by 32 points.
“This weekend has been another good weekend for the team,’ said Team Manager Leighton Haigh.
“In the MXY125 class Charlie rode great and took three race wins and had it not been for a stone derailing the chain it would have been four wins. Jayden rode great on Saturday to finish third in both races but was unfortunate to be given a penalty. On the Sunday he suffered a big crash that impacted his results. Billy was a star in the Big Wheel 85cc class, as he took three out of the four race wins but could have had four wins if he didn’t have a small crash in the last race. Overall it was a good weekend for the team and we move onto the next event.”
