MXGP Sardegna: Cairoli injured in timed practice

Red Bull KTM Antonio Cairoli was stretchered of circuit this morning during the MXGP timed practice, after a huge off on one of the downhill sections at Riola Sardo.

With his Red Bull KTM team mate Jeffrey Herlings taking the top spot and going fastest in the deep sand in this mornings timed qualifying in Italy, it was a huge moment for Cairoli which saw him crash heavily and ending up with broken handle bars. Not the greatest news for the Italian on home soil after announcing his retirement this week at the end of the 2021 season.

“The track is sketchy, all my prayers go to Tony,’ said a concerned Herlings. “I hope he is safe and the man above keeps him safe. For me, I’m looking good for today I’m hoping for two good starts, stay safe and hope to get on the podium or the win.”

More will be updated as more information becomes available.
