Todd Kellett second in French beach race

Battling British beach race ace Todd Kellett (Yamaha Official Drag’on Tek) shrugged off the pain from an ankle injury that is still not 100 per cent healed to race to second overall at the weekend’s opening round of the Pro Hexis sand race series at Loon-Plage on France’s northern coast.

The 23-year-old from Langport in Somerset ran 4-2 in the pair of 60-minute motos near Dunkirk to take the second step of the podium behind home hero and team-mate Miko Potisek who won both races. It was a typically gutsy comeback ride from the three-time Weston winner who broke his ankle at a round of the Dutch ONK series in September.

“I’m a bit stiff but okay,” said Todd, speaking from France this morning. “It was pretty challenging. The track was incredibly fast with a lot of big jumps to flat landings and that was quite difficult for me. In qualifying my foot came off the peg over a jump and landed on the floor which wasn’t pleasant and I did the same in the first race.

“I made sure it was taped up well and then it was just a case of grinning and bearing it. I had a new set of boots which helped as well but on the whole it’s been as good as it could have been. Miko broke his leg two years ago and even he said the jumps were giving him problems – we were hitting them incredibly fast.”

Todd’s next event is the legendary Le Touquet beach race that’s currently scheduled for January 24.
